Over the next decade, the CMHC National Housing Strategy aims to remove 530,000 families from housing need, cut chronic homelessness by 50% and change the face of housing in Canada forever.  

The Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) funding program has historically given priority to:  

  1. New-build housing projects that can provide occupancy within 18 months (24 months for those in the North, or in remote or special access communities) of the contract  

  2. Modular construction housing projects that can exceed the energy efficiency standards as set out in the 2015 National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) or local/regional standard
